ABOUT US

Started in 2018, Three’s A Crowd is a community of LA-based Black creative professionals from all backgrounds, disciplines, and levels in our careers within advertising, marketing, entertainment, production, fine arts and entrepreneurial spaces. We share a common dream and that is: to build space, influence, and tangible power within the creative industries. Ultimately, we aim to own ourselves, our culture and our youth. For us, by us.

OUR ROOTS

What we seek to do isn’t new. We rise on the shoulders of a rich history of Black thinkers and leaders who advocated self-reliance and black agency. From the Harlem Renaissance to BET, from Sojourner Truth to Spike Lee, and from Marcus Garvey to Dr. Dre, we follow the example of those who never asked for a seat at the table, all the better to build their own.

WHY THY NAME

There was a time when any gathering of “three or more” Black people was cause for alarm, and for silencing. Unfortunately, those days never went away. In professional settings, we have all seen and experienced the discomfort of our Black colleagues around one another, reflecting the fear of being perceived as too inward, too un-collaborative, “too Black.” Three’s A Crowd is a recognition of where we’re at and an embrace of where we need to go: toward unapologetic Black self-organizing and collective uplifting.
